A federal judge has approved a class action settlement against Collection Acquisition Company, LLC for violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. In Jackson v. Collection Acquisition Company, LLC, Case No. 13-cv-00570 (ED Mo.), the Court approved a settlement of $10,000 to be distributed among the class members. The named Plaintiff in the case was approved to receive $4,000 for his participation and prosecution of the case. Mr. Jackson was represented by James W. Eason of the Eason Law Firm, LLC located in St. Louis, Missouri.

"We would have liked for the class members to have received more compensation," said Eason, "but for class action settlements stemming from the FDCPA, the defendants damages are capped at $500,000 or 1% of their net worth, whichever is lesser." Eason also said that he was pleased with the result and was thankful he could get his client and other consumers the compensation they deserved.

"These types of violations are common in the debt collection industry," said Eason. "Most collection agencies aren't interested in following the law." "They will do whatever they have to do to collect a debt, even violating the rights of the consumer."
